OVERLAND PARK, Kansas - July 6, 2016 - Champion Traps & Targets and the National 4-H Shooting Sports Committee announced the inaugural winners of the Tom Knapp Memorial Scholarship are Devin Rowland of Dubach, Louisiana and Matthew Sequin of Pine Grove, Louisiana.

The scholarship program was created to honor legendary exhibition shooter Tom Knapp, who passed away in April 2013. With the support of his wife Colleen, Champion extended Knapp's licensed products program to fund the scholarship. Over $90,000 was transferred to the 4-H Shooting Sports Committee to endow annual scholarships for 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassadors.

The program carries on Knapp's work as an ambassador and teacher who inspired an entire generation of new shooters.

“We are honored that the Knapp family and Champion Traps and Targets would support our aspiring young leaders with this generous scholarship program,” said Lisa Muzzey with the 4-H Shooting Sports Committee.

Eligible applicants are high school seniors or college students who actively participated in 4-H Shooting Sports and served as Ambassadors, and who are enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year school. They are required to have a 3.0 GPA.

The first two $2500 scholarships were awarded in Grand Island, Nebraska at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships. The scholarships were presented at the by Champion’s Education and Conservation Specialist Jon Zinnel, who coincidentally served as a National 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador from 2005 to 2006.

Devin Rowland recently graduated from Ruston High School, and will be attending Louisiana Tech University to study Civil Engineering.

“Being an ambassador has taught me confidence, dedication, loyalty, teamwork and integrity,” Rowland said. “And it has been a lot of fun.”

Matthew Seguin recently graduated from Walker High School, and will be attending Louisiana State University to major in poultry science.

“I have truly grown over this past year not only as a leader but as an individual,” Seguin said. “Without the shooting sports I would not be who I am today.”
